Marketers anxiously await chance to add apps to iPhone

Re: Adweek: Marketers anxiously await chance to add apps to iPhone
Interest in developing/promoting/selling iPhone apps is already reaching fever pitch and WWDC is still some 6 weeks away. I wonder how many iPhone apps will be ready for sale/download on App Store launch day? My guess is that Apple will be quite selective to start … I’d guess we will have only a few dozen or so apps on App Store launch day … and soon thereafter many hundreds … eventually thousands. I expect we will hear some developer community wining on App Store launch day for those left off the menu.
As one barometer of developer interest … I’ve received half a dozen or so requests to promote China/Asia specific iPhone apps via my obscure, low traffic blog. My iPhonAsia blog is non-commercial, yet I opened a separate page to help promote these apps (one sentence only w a link), with the qualifier that I will shut down the page as soon as the Apple App Store opens for business.

This post by idannyb should not be overlooked. I had not thought about it until I saw this post - but it makes a lot of sense that software developers would be scrambling for ways to market the apps that they have written/are writing for iPhone.
We are seeing the birth of an entirely new platform for software writers. There will almost certainly be a “land grab” mentality as software writers (big companies, little companies and individuals) try to position themselves on the new platform.
This is going to be fun to watch!
